It’s impossible to overstate how closely this man’s poster art was inextricably linked to my entire idea of “movies” when I was a kid. Browsing the gallery, its clear that I didn’t always even realize it; there are posters he did that must have clicked with me on some level, but I’m only now seeing them and thinking “oh YEAH he did that!” Struzan’s art might not be the most high-brow, but it definitely captures a childlike sense of wonder and adventure that few others would be able to acheive.
I loooooooove metal logos. I was pretty proud of myself for being able to read the Impaled logo on a shirt the other week without asking, but that was NOTHING compared to these logos. It must have been so much fun to create these. I went with the Absu logo for this post cuz I love Absu, but you should see the other ones!
but does it float
I strongly, strongly recommend that you head over to But Does It Float and check these images out, and if you click the images there, you’ll be taken to Kim Asendorf’s flickr page. I saw this on my friend Catherine’s feed and was blown away. The images remind me a lot of the album covers for the band Growing, as well as album covers for Autechre. So awesome (in the traditional sense of the word)! I tried to look up pixel shifting to try and understood how this was acheived, but I’m still clueless. Does anyone know?
I love this kind of thing. The question of extinction, particularly human-caused extinction, and the extent to which we should stride to prevent it, is very interesting to me. How much do we miss the Tasmanian Tiger?
